HOWTO: Configuring Encrypted Connections to the WebMarshal Database

Expand / Collapse

This article applies to:

  • WebMarshal 8.0.0 and above
  • Database connectivity

Question:

  • How do I configure WebMarshal to use encryption for the database connection?

Procedure:

First, configure the database using the WebMarshal Console.

To use encrypted connections:

  1. On the Array Manager server, in the WebMarshal install edit the file ArrayManager\Policy\ArrayPolicy.Working.xml
  2. Locate the node "Database"
  3. Add two attributes and set both values to to "yes"
    • useDataEncryption (value: "yes")
    • trustServerCertificate (value: "yes" unless a specific certificate is installed and can be validated on both the SQL Server and the WebMarshal Array Manager server)
    For example: <Database useDataEncryption="yes" trustServerCertificate="yes" provider="MSOLEDBSQL19" server="mySQLServer" database="WebMarshal" user="EXAMPLE\Secureuser" password="6X+NAW/fiu/egydom+4j4A==" useTCP="yes"  enabled="yes" retention="100" reportingConsole="" />
  4. Do not edit the other values.
    • Note that XML values are case sensitive.
    • Note that these settings require MSOLEDBSQL19. This provider is installed in current WebMarshal versions and set as the provider.
  5. Save the file, and the restart the WebMarshal Array Manager service

Notes:

Be aware that the Marshal Reporting Console does not support encrypted connections.
