How do I enable Macintosh Client Authentication?

Question:

Symptoms:

• Macintosh users (and users of Netscape, Opera, and other browsers) cannot authenticate with WebMarshal

Procedure:

Transparent authentication by Windows NT user name requires Windows Integrated Authentication. 

• Windows Integrated Authentication is available with the latest versions of Windows browsers including Edge, Chrome, Firefox and Opera.
• Windows Integrated Authentication works on Macintosh computer joined to the domain.

By default this option negotiates Kerberos or NTLM authentication.

If it is necessary to allow access by applications that do not support Windows Authentication, the following options are available:

• Use Basic (Clear text) authentication:
  When a user begins browsing they will be prompted for a username and password. This can be a Windows NT account (or a NDS account if WebMarshal is configured with this option). Set this option in the WebMarshal Proxy Server Wizard.
• Use IP based authentication: 
  This option authenticates sessions using the computer name, and therefore does not require prompting for authentication in the browser.
