FAQ: Can MailMarshal be installed on the same machine as Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition?

Expand / Collapse

This article applies to:

  • MailMarshal (SEG)
  • MailMarshal ECM/MailMarshal Exchange
  • Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition

Question:

Can MailMarshal be installed on the same machine as Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition?

Reply:

Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition can be installed on the same machine as MailMarshal; however, it cannot be used by MailMarshal as a virus scanner within your rules.  In addition, you will need to ensure that all the relevant MailMarshal folders are excluded from Norton's realtime and scheduled scanning.

For details of the MailMarshal folders that must be excluded from scanning see the following article:

  • Q10850: What directories need to be excluded from resident virus scanning and regular backups?

Ensure that you apply exclusions to realtime scanning and to all scheduled scans.

Notes:

It may be necessary to perform these configuration changes via the Symantec Start Center Console instead of the Norton AntiVirus Administrator. The Norton Administrator allows you to view each scheduled scan but will not allow changes.
