HOWTO: How do I configure outbound email retries and other email sending timeouts?

Expand / Collapse

This article applies to:

  • MailMarshal (SEG)

Question:

  • How do I configure outbound email retries and other email sending timeouts?
  • How long does MailMarshal wait before timing out?

Procedure:

This article answers the following questions and describes some of the things you can do to alter the way MailMarshal delivers email.  The MailMarshal Sender (MMSender) service is responsible for sending email.

Where and how are the following MailMarshal settings configured?

  • How long before the initial "Waiting for HELO" times out?
  • How often does MailMarshal retry?
  • How many times before MailMarshal quits trying?
  • What does MailMarshal do with timed out messages?

Important Note: Changing these settings could affect the delivery of your email. MailMarshal follows accepted SMTP standards for delivering email, and you do not usually need to change anything.  Only alter these settings if you are familiar with SMTP delivery and actually experiencing an issue.
