Question:

I do not have SQL Enterprise Manager available. Where do I get a user interface (GUI) for SQL Express?

Response:

If you use SQL Server Express, and you do not have available the SQL Enterprise Manager, there are multiple GUI applications and tools available to you.

Microsoft's free solution is SQL Server Management Studio Express (SSMS). See Related Links below. This tool was introduced with SQL Server 2005. Current versions of SSMS can be used to manage most SQL Express or MSDE versions.

Note:

• SQL Server Management Studio Express has a number of prerequisites including a current version of .NET Framework.
• You can install SSMS and its prerequisites on any workstation, and manage one or more MSDE/SQL servers remotely.
