FAQ: Can MailMarshal SMTP scan internal email?

Expand / Collapse

This article applies to:

  • MailMarshal (SEG)

Question:

  • Can MailMarshal scan internal email?
  • Can I apply MailMarshal SMTP policy to email between internal addresses?

Reply:

MailMarshal SMTP is designed as an email gateway. MailMarshal SMTP does not normally process email sent within an organization. For organizations that use an internal email server, no robust method exists to route internal email through MailMarshal SMTP.

For organizations that deploy Microsoft Exchange Server as the internal email server, LevelBlue recommends MailMarshal Exchange to scan internal email. For more information and comparisions, see Q10722: Should I use MailMarshal SMTP and/or MailMarshal Exchange?

Notes:

Very small organizations that use the MailMarshal SMTP POP3 service as the only email server can apply policy to internal email.
