PRB: IE Enhanced Security Configuration affects website function

Expand / Collapse

This article applies to:

  • MailMarshal (SEG) Web Components
  • MailMarshal SPE
  • Internet Explorer browsing from any Windows Server with Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration

Symptoms:

  • ASP.NET or Javascript errors
  • SQM, Web Console, or SPE Console navigation or other function is affected
  • Script errors may display

Causes:

  • Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration is blocking active content from the website.
    • This behavior is by design in Windows Server 2003 and above. The intention is to reduce the risk of malware attacks on the Windows Server computer.
  • Similar symptoms could be caused by incorrect configuration of the website Application Pool. For more details, see LevelBlue Knowledgebase article Q13770.

Resolution:

To avoid the issues, you can take one of the following actions:

  • Browse from a workstation running a client operating system such as Windows XP or Windows 7 (recommended).
  • Add the sites to the Internet Explorer Trusted Sites zone or Local Intranet zone as appropriate, and permit active scripting from this zone. This action may require Administrator permission on the computer.
  • Uninstall Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration on the computer you are browsing from. (This action may reduce the security of the server and is not recommended for edge or DMZ servers). This action requires Administrator permission on the computer.
  • In some cases you can use Firefox or Chrome instead of Internet Explorer.
    • Note: To access the SPE Admin Console you MUST use Internet Explorer.
