HOWTO: Using Image Analyzer after upgrade to MailMarshal Exchange 5.2

Expand / Collapse

This article applies to:

  • MailMarshal Exchange 5.2
  • Image Analyzer functionality

Question:

  • How do I use the Image Analyzer functionality after upgrading to MailMarshal Exchange 5.2?

Procedure:

MailMarshal Exchange 5.2 includes integrated Image Analyzer functionality to identify potentially inappropriate (pornographic) images. This functionality is licensed separately.

To use Image Analyzer functionality after upgrading:

  1. Obtain a temporary product key from Marshal. Use the Request Key function in the Configurator (Tools>View License Details). Specify that you want to try Image Analyzer with an existing installation.
  2. When you receive a temporary trial key from Marshal, make a record of your existing full product key, then enter the temporary key.
  3. At the end of your trial period, if you have purchased Image Analyzer support enter the new full key provided by Marshal. If you have not purchased Image Analyzer, re-enter your previous full key.
  4. Add rules to support Image Analyzer (upgrading does not add new rules). You can add rules similar to the following:

Standard Rule: Block IMAGES (Suspected Pornographic)
This rule invokes the Image Analyser to scan images for possible pornographic and sexually explicit content.
    When a message arrives
Where addressed to '[TestDomain] Domain Users'
Except where addressed from '[TestDomain] Domain Users'
Where the attached image is inappropriate
Send a 'Suspect Image In' notification message
And write log message(s) with 'Contains Suspect Image'
And move the message to 'Suspect Images'

Note: The above sample rule applies to Incoming email. You can add similar rules for Outgoing and Internal email.

  5. For more information about Image Analyzer settings, see the User Guide and Help.

Notes:

  • For new installations of MailMarshal Exchange 5.2, Image Analyzer rules are included in the default ruleset. You can simply enable the rules.
  • For trial downloads, the Image Analyzer trial license is included in MailMarshal Exchange trial keys generated from the Marshal website. (However you cannot use the web trial keys with an existing installation.)
