ERRMSG: Error installing and activating the MailMarshal Exchange agent

Expand / Collapse

This article applies to:

  • MailMarshal Exchange 5.3 and above

Symptoms:

  • Installing MailMarshal Exchange
  • Error Message: There was an error installing and activating the MailMarshal Exchange agent

Causes:

  • MailMarshal Exchange attempts to ensure that the directories and files within the installation are writeable by the MailMarshal Exchange Agent. The installer adds appropriate permissions for the account used by the Microsoft Exchange Transport service.
  • If the Exchange Transport service is configured to run as LocalSystem, the permissions cannot be set because this account is restricted by the operating system.

Resolution:

To resolve this issue, change the account used by the Microsoft Exchange Transport service. Use the Network Service account or a specific account with appropriate permissions.
