HOWTO: Blocking explicit content in Bing results

Expand / Collapse

This article applies to:

  • WebMarshal
  • Bing Search Engine

Question:

  • How can I block explicit content results returned by the Bing search engine?

Procedure:

Bing results are cached and returned directly, so they cannot be blocked or categorized based on the source URL.

Explicit content is served by Bing from the following server locations:

ts1.explicit.bing.net
ts2.explicit.bing.net
ts3.explicit.bing.net
ts4.explicit.bing.net

To block this content in a WebMarshal rule (or take any other Rule action), you can include the specific server names in a URL category.

You could also use the following wildcard URL in a URL category: *.explicit.bing.net

Notes:

WebMarshal 6.5.2 and above includes SafeSearch enforcement for Bing. This functionality could help to block explicit results from Bing.
