FAQ: Can I import MailMarshal Exchange 5.X message history to version 7.X?

Expand / Collapse

This article applies to:

  • MailMarshal ECM/MailMarshal Exchange
  • Migration from version 5.X to version 7.X

Question:

  • Can I import MailMarshal Exchange 5.X message history to version 7.X?
  • Can I view messages from MailMarshal Exchange 5.X in version 7.X?
  • Can I view mail history from MailMarshal Exchange 5.X in version 7.X?

Reply:

As stated in the User Guide, MailMarshal Exchange 7.X implements a completely different architecture to version 5.X. In particular, message file naming uses different conventions and version 7.X uses a database for mail history.

No upgrade path is available from version 5.X to 7.X. However, you can install MailMarshal Exchange 7.X on the same server as MailMarshal Exchange 5.3. (You can only enable one Exchange Agent at a time; see the User Guide for details)

The expected migration path is to retain the old server(s) and/or version 5.X software as long as required for access to mail history and quarantined items. Access the old items using the version 5.X Console.
