HOWTO: Preventing automatic updates from restarting MailMarshal services

Expand / Collapse

This article applies to:

  • MailMarshal (SEG)
    • Feature not available in MailMarshal (SEG) 10.0.0
  • MailMarshal ECM/MailMarshal Exchange 7.X

Question:

  • How can I prevent unexpected restarts of MailMarshal services that are caused by automatic updates?

Reply:

Some automatic updates to MailMarshal require some MailMarshal services to restart. For instance if a new version of the PDF unpacking library is delivered, an Engine restart is required.

These updates are retrieved and applied automatically, and you cannot control the timing of the retrieval unless you do all updates manually (not recommended).

Resolution:

In order to have greater control over the service restarts, you can implement Commit Scheduling. This feature allows you to set a schedule of times when updates can be applied to the processing servers.

To learn more and to set up Commit Scheduling,

  • MailMarshal 10.0.1 and above: In the Management Console see System Configuration | Advanced System Properties | Commit Scheduling.
  • ECM and SEG 8.X: in the Configurator see Tools | MailMarshal Properties | Advanced System Properties | Commit Scheduling.
