HOWTO: SQM configuration on upgrade to MailMarshal 12 or above

Expand / Collapse

This article applies to:

  • MailMarshal 12 and above
  • SQM installations
  • Error message: The application is configured to issue secure cookies. These cookies require the browser to issue the request over SSL (https protocol). However, the current request is not over SSL.

Beckground:

In MailMarshal 12 and above, security settings for the SQM site are enhanced.

After installing or upgrading MailMarshal and MailMarshal SQM to version 12 or above, you may encounter security related errors.

Forms Login Security:

In version 12 and above, Forms login security requires SSL by default. If you are using Forms login for the SQM site and not using SSL, users will see the error message mentioned.

Updating to use SSL (HTTPS) is recommended.

To disable the SSL requirement temporarily if necessary:

  1. From IIS Manager, navigate to the IIS Authentication Settings for the SpamConsole application.
  2. Edit the Forms Authentication item, and uncheck "Requires SSL", then click OK.

Installations Created Prior to 7.2:

In some much earlier versions of MailMarshal, the password used to connect from SQM to the Array Manager was encrypted using a deprecated method. These legacy entries are not accepted in version 12 and above. They must be updated.

To update the password:

  1. From IIS Manager, navigate to the Application Settings for the SpamConsole application
  2. Remove the entry UpgradedFromPre720
  3. Set the value of InitialConfigurationComplete to False
  4. Open the SpamConsole website. You should be directed to the Initial Configuration page where you can enter the password.
    • Do not change other settings on this page.
