HOWTO: How do I migrate profiles from an earlier version?

Expand / Collapse

This article applies to:

  • Firewall Suite 4.1c

Question:

How do I migrate profiles from an earlier version?

Symptoms:

  • I cannot find the migrationtool.exe.

Procedure:

Note: These instructions are for migrating data to Firewall Suite v4.1c from another installation of Firewall Suite located in a different directory. Do not use these instructions for migrating if you plan to upgrade by installing the new version of Firewall Suite in the same location as a previous version.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

To migrate data between two installations of Firewall Suite located in different directories:

1. In the <FWSInstallDir>\wtmigrate directory, open the migcmd.ini file. (Note: If there is no migcmd.ini file, please create one) The migcmd.ini file should contain the following text:

 [main]
 D1=[source directory]
 D2=[destination directory]
 P1=FIRE
 P2=FIRE
 V1=[source product version]
 V2=4.1c
 FT=No

2. Replace the D1 value, [source directory], with the path to the directory where the earlier version of Firewall Suite is installed.

3. Replace the D2 value, [destination directory], with the path to the directory where the later version of Firewall Suite is installed.

4. Replace the V1 value, [source product version], with the version from which you are upgrading.

5. To migrate the FastTrends databases, change the FT value to Yes.

6. Save the migcmd.ini file.

7. Go to a command line, change to the <FWSInstallDir>\wtmigrate directory and execute wtmigrate.exe.

After the process is complete you should be able to open Firewall Suite and confirm that your settings have been migrated.

Notes:

Migration generates a file called wtmigrate.log in the Firewall Suite installation directory in the destination installation. This log typically includes information about copied files and merged initialization files.
