INFO: What is FastTrends?

Expand / Collapse

This article applies to:

  • Firewall Suite 4.X

Question:

What is FastTrends?

Information:

The FastTrends database gives you the fastest reporting available. FastTrends is patent-pending technology which allows you to store the results of your log file analysis in a database so you do not have to wait for Firewall Suite to re-analyze data that has already been reported.

FastTrends stores summary data for historical analysis. A summary of traffic data that is typically 5-25% of the size of the raw traffic data is stored, and once the first analysis cycle has stored summary information in FastTrends, the time to run reports is dramatically reduced. If the data has been filtered, then the reduced size of the FastTrends database is even more dramatic. FastTrends is profile-specific. FastTrends data cannot be shared between profiles.

The results of analysis are imported into the database transparently when you analyze your log files the first time. Subsequent analyses of the same log file takes only seconds.

For example, if you turn on FastTrends for a weekly report, and you generate the report on a Monday, Firewall Suite analyzes the log file and stores it in the FastTrends database. Then if you run the same report on Tuesday, Firewall Suite only has to analyze new data for Tuesday, saving you much valued time.
