FAQ: What is the purpose of the Category Weight system?

Expand / Collapse

This article applies to:

  • R3000

Question:

What is the purpose of the Category Weight system?

Reply:

The Category Weight system lets you choose which category will be logged and reported for a URL request that exists in multiple categories with the same operational precedence.

That is, it will only take effect if the site in question is contained with multiple categories of a particular list (Allow or Block). For example, let's use www.myspace.com. We'll assume the following:
  • www.myspace.com exists in 2 categories: Online Communities and Dating
  • The active filtering profile is set to block both Online Communities and Dating
  • myspace IS NOT contained in any categories in the Allow List
  • Dating is weighted higher than Online Communities

In this example, any hit to www.myspace.com will result in a block under the Dating category (since Dating is weighted higher).
