Question:

When using Internet Explorer 7, I am unable to export a report as an Excel File.

Reply

In the 8e6 Webclient, when choosing to export a report as an Excel file, certain default Internet Explorer 7 Security Settings may cause the file download to be blocked. The browser may display the IE "Information Bar" warning which may contain the following error message:

"To help protect your security, Internet Explorer blocked this site from downloading file to your computer. Click here for options..."

To successfully export the report and download the Excel file, you will need to adjust some settings within Internet Explorer itself. The following instructions come straight from the IE Help pages regarding how to adjust "Information Bar" settings:

To turn off Information bar messages about file downloads:

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
  3. Click the Security tab, and then click Custom level.
  4. To turn off the Information bar for file downloads, scroll to the Downloads section of the list, and then, under Automatic prompting for file downloads, click Enable.

Save these settings and try exporting the report again as an Excel file. The Information Bar should no longer appear and the file should load properly.
