INFO: Distributing the mobile client in an image

Question:

Distributing the mobile client in an image

Reply

Question:  Can I install the mobile client on a computer, and then take that image and burn/distribute it onto other computers?

Answer:  Yes, but here's why it might not be advisable...

During the installation process, the mobile client grabs the hardware (MAC) address of the computer you're installing it on.  This MAC address is then sent to the R3000 for identification.

If you choose to pre-install the mobile client on a single laptop, and then copy a "snapshot" image to other laptops, all the users will have the MAC address of the original laptop.  You will NOT be able to assign different profiles to different users.  Everyone will have the same profile.

By manually doing the installation on each laptop, this ensures that each laptop will have a unique MAC address, which you can use to filter by MAC address, if desired.
