INFO: Poor performance of Java Virtual Machine when using proxy

Expand / Collapse

  • Description
The Java Virtual Machine performs very badly in downloading and running java applets when it is configured to use a proxy.

  • Symptoms

  • Cause
Java Virtual Machine will try to do reverse DNS to the proxy IP address each time it accesses  the proxy. This makes the applet loading very slow.
Some applets download dozens of other class files, causing a huge delay.
More details can be found in the following link: http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=5092063

  • Solution
Define the proxy in the company DNS server and set its name in the browser configuration, instead of the proxy IP address.

  • Software Version
    N/A
