FAQ: Does the web filter block Bittorrent?

Expand / Collapse

This article applies to:

  • R3000, WF, WFR

Question:

  • Does the web filter block Bittorrent?

Reply:

The filter is able to block Bittorrent websites that make downloads available through the Peer-to-Peer/File sharing category.

HOWEVER, the R3000 does not block actual bittorrent traffic as most torrents are transferred using UDP packets, which the R3000 does not filter.  If you want to block UDP packets, consult your firewall manual.

Best practice for schools is to block downloads via search engine or URL keywords or restrict PC downloads. Every school has its own policy.

you can block .exe just use the dot wisely to prevent over-blocking.

Warning: do not use url keywords like sex or x because any part of the word in the url will be blocked like below.
